james y. lee / 이유진 is a Korean-American screenwriter, playwright, critic, and dramaturg.
they received a B.A. in Radio/Television/Film with a playwriting concentration from Northwestern University. their work portrays artists’ creative processes amid pivotal historical moments — and themes of authenticity and survival in the face of exploitation. their plays have been / are being developed with various theatre companies in the Chicago area, with mentorship from various professional screenwriters and playwrights.
james is also a freelance film critic with credentials in GALECA and the Chicago Indie Critics, as well as experience in press coverage for film festivals across the globe, and film programming for the Chicago International Film Festival. they are also an Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition reader, and has supported undergraduate playwrights and screenwriters in student production environments at Northwestern. when not writing or watching movies and theatre, james dabbles in card games of all kinds.
